GE2270 was first isolated from P. rosea in 1991, and P. rosea is still used on an industrial scale to produce GE2270. Antibiotic GE2270 is active against gram-positive bacteria including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE). Tocchetti et al. have sequenced and analyzed the genome to better understand synthesis of GE2270 and the use of P. rosea as a tool. The location of the coding genes for GE2270 and the expression levels over time are an important look at production.
