2-Oxazolidone is a heterocyclic organic compound containing nitrogen and oxygen in a 5-membered ring. The Oxazolidinone class has a 2-Oxazolidone in the structure and can be used as antimicrobials. Other examples of important oxazolidinone antibiotics include Linezolid, Tedizolid, Posizolid, Radezolid, Cycloserine, and Contezolid. In chemistry, they can be used as Evans auxiliaries, which are used for chiral synthesis. It can be used as a precursor for the preparation of other compounds and commercially important intermediates such as N-vinyl-2-oxazolidone.
2-Oxazolidone is soluble in water.
