4-Aminobenzoic acid (PABA, para-aminobenzoic acid) is a B-vitamin derivative and is used by bacteria to synthesize folate (vitamin B9), an essential vitamin for bacteria and humans. 4-Aminobenzoic acid is sparingly soluble in water at 6.11 mg/mL.
