6,7-dimethoxy-2,2-dimethyl-3-chromene (ageratochromene) is a metabolite of some plants including Ageratum spp. and Verbesina spp. Its synthesis was reported in 1958. 6,7-dimethoxy-2,2-dimethyl-3-chromene induces premature ecdysis in insects, resulting in death either during or within a short time before or after the molting process 6,7-dimethoxy-2,2-dimethyl-3-chromene also sterilizes mature insects, interrupts embryogenesis in insect eggs, induces diapause and prevents sex pheromone secretion in insects.
