    Acyclovir (acycloguanosine) is a synthetic purine nucleoside analog and is used as an antiviral medication for the treatment of herpes simplex virus (HSV), shingles, and chickenpox.

    Mechanism of ActionAcyclovir (acycloguanosine) is converted to acyclovir triphosphate (ACV-TP) by viral enzymes which inactivates HSV DNA polymerases.
    Spectrumacyclovir (acycloguanosine) targets most herpesvirus species including HSV-1, HSV-2, cytomegalovirus, Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), and Varicella zoster virus (VZV).
