Albendazole is an antihelminthic compound and is commonly used to treat parasitic worm infections including giardiasis, filariasis, hydatid disease, pinworm disease, ascariasis, and trichuriasis.
Mechanism of Action | Albendazole targets intestinal cells of parasitic worms and inhibits the polymerization of tubulin into microtubules which causes a reduced uptake of glucose ultimately diminishing the worm's glycogen stores. |
Spectrum | Albendazole targets a broad range of flatworms and nematodes that are known to cause ascariasis, capillariasis, filariasis, and fasciolosis. |
Molecular Formula | C12H15N3O2S |
