Ski to Sea: The adventure concludes

Our TOKU-E Bobcats skied, ran, cycled, and paddled their way from Mt. Baker to the Bellingham Bay in the annual Ski to Sea 2022, the first time for all team members.  Fresh off a TOKU-E tailgate the night before, our skiers and runner had to leave Bellingham at 5:00 am for the 7:30 am start time (ouch).  The 93.5 mile adventure started at Mt. Baker with Jack was up first for the 4 mile, cross-country ski course, clocking a time of 50:12. Julian took over for the 2.5 mile downhill ski course, which included a 900 foot elevation gain, finishing in 41:37. Jonah was on the run course along Mt. Baker Highway though the town of Glacier. This 8 mile run included a downhill portion included a 2200 foot drop in elevation, and he finished in 48:34.  Kevin, who traveled from Vancouver, BC for the race, was on the 41-mile road bike course through Nooksack and finishing at Riverside Park in Everson, with a finishing time of 2:01. Due to extensive flooding, no spectators were allowed at Riverside Park but our team members found a way to surprise Madi and Sam along the 18.5 mile route in their 2-person canoe down the Nooksack River, finishing in 2 hours and 37 minutes. Next came Emma on the cyclocross bike who biked 13 miles through this new challenging course through Ferndale with a time of 1:20. Judging from the mud-splattered legs of the bikers at the finish, this course clearly did not disappoint. After a successful hand-off to Bryan, his sea kayak leg was underway at Squalicum Harbor for 5-mile paddle to Fairhaven Marine Park, where many had gathered to watch him run up the beach, and ring the final bell for a time 1:33, and an overall team time of 9 hours and 50 minutes.  We are so proud of all of you!
