Fungi

Fungal (molds and yeasts) contamination is a common source of biological cell culture contamination due to their ubiquitous distribution in the environment and laboratory facilities. Without the use of antimycotics, molds and yeasts can grow quickly in nutrient rich cell culture media making the media turbid and rapidly increasing the pH of the culture.

To prevent fungal contamination, the following antimycotic compounds can be used in cell culture media to prevent or control mold and yeast contamination.
