Mechanism of Action | 1,10-Phenanthroline Hydrochlorie Monohydrate damages mitochondrial function in fungi by disabling the ability to reduce 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC). 1,10-Phenanthroline also inhibits DNA synthesis in cancer cells; however, the mechanism is poorly understood. |
Molecular Formula | C12H8N2 · HCl · H2O |
Cancer Applications | Chemotherapeutic potential of 1,10-Phenanthroline and three of its transition metal complexes was determined using two human carcinoma cell lines (A-498 and Hep-G2). The compound induced a concentration-dependent cytotoxic effect, with metal complexes demonstrating the greatest cytotoxic response (Deegan et al, 2007). |
