Deoxygerfelin was isolated from a mutagen-treated strain of Aspergillus fumigatus that failed to produce fumigatin and
spinulosin, by researchers at Kanazawa University, Japan in 1972. Deoxygerfelin is closely related to gerfelin, a metabolite isolated from Beaveria felina as a geranylgeranyl diphosphatate synthase inhibitor. The biological profile of Deoxygerfelin is largely unexplored.
