Zidebactam is a non-β-lactam antibiotic that is categorized as a diabicyclooctane (DBO). It is a penicillin-binding protein 2 (PBP2) inhibitor with a high affinity for PBP2 in Gram-negative bacteria. When used in combination with cefepime, it can enhance the activity of cefepime against multi-drug resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa. These BLBLI combinations (β-Lactam-β-lactamase inhibitor) are used to retain the activity of β-lactam antibiotics and extend the activity against bacteria that can produce the β-lactamase enzyme.
