    Antimony potassium tartrate trihydrate (emetic tarter, potassium antimonyl tartrate, or potassium antimontarterate) is a unique compound used as an emetic and for the treatment of the parasitic infections, schistosomiasis and leishmaniasis. Recently, antimony potassium tartrate trihydrate has been found to have antiangiogenic and antitumor properties in nonsmall-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells.

    Mechanism of ActionThe mode of action of antimony potassium tartrate is not well understood. It is thought that antimony anti-parasitic activity arises from a process of apoptosis involving externalization of phosphatidylserine and DNA fragmentation.
