    Cefditoren Sodium

    $129.00

Cefditoren Sodium is a broad-spectrum, third generation cephalosporin antibiotic.  It has activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.  The compound can be used to study antibiotic effects against group A Streptococcus and other microbes responsible for pharyngitis. It can be used to study the bacteria causing chronic bronchitis and community-acquired pneumonia (CAP).  The compound has enhanced stability against many common β-lactamases.

Cefditoren Sodium is freely soluble in aqueous solution.

    We also offer:

    • Cefditoren (C100)
    • Cefditoren Pivoxil (C050
Mechanism of Action Like β-lactams, cephalosporins interfere with PBP (penicillin binding protein) activity involved in the final phase of peptidoglycan synthesis. PBP’s are enzymes which catalyze a pentaglycine crosslink between alanine and lysine residues providing additional strength to the cell wall. Without a pentaglycine crosslink, the integrity of the cell wall is severely compromised and ultimately leads to cell lysis and death. Resistance to cephalosporins is commonly due to cells containing plasmid encoded β-lactamases.
Spectrum Cefditoren is a broad-spectrum antibiotic with activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.  It is commonly used against bacteria responsible for community acquired pneumonia and pharyngitis.
    Microbiology Applications

Cefditoren Sodium can be used to study antibiotic effects against group A Streptococcus and other microbes responsible for pharyngitis.  It has activity against Streptococcus pneumoniae, one of the causal agents of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP).

The in vitro post-antibiotic effect (PAE) and batericidal activity of Cefditoren was compared to that of cefiximecefuroximeloracarbefcefacloramoxicillin, amoxicillin/clavulanate, clarithromycinazithromycinerythromycin, and ciprofloxacin against ATCC culture strains and clinical respiratory isolates.

Cefditoren is commonly used in clinical in vitro microbiological antimicrobial susceptibility tests (panels, discs, and MIC strips) against Gram-positive and Gram-negative microbial isolates. Medical microbiologists use AST results to recommend antibiotic treatment options.  Representative MIC values include:

    Streptococcus pneumoniae: ≤0.008 - 1 µg/ml
    Haemophilus influenzae: ≥0.063 - 0.25 µg/ml
