    Nalidixic Acid Sodium, CulturePure®

    1,200,030.00Rp - 2,847,130.00Rp

Nalidixic Acid Sodium, CulturePure® is a synthetic 1,8-naphthyridone antibiotic similar in structure and mechanism to quinolones, the commercial preparation of which was developed by Sanofi Aventis.  The product is commonly used as a selective agent in many isolation media.  It has a limited bacteriocidal spectrum and is similar in structure and mechanism to quinolones, with a 1,8-naphthyridine nucleus containing 2 nitrogen atoms (unlike quinoline that contains a single nitrogen atom).

Nalidixic Acid can be used in the RADAR assay, a method for isolating DNA-protein adducts and their identification and quantification. It can also be used to study bacterial division and apoptosis research.

Nalidixic Acid Sodium, CulturePure® is freely soluble in water.  For additional CulturePure products, click here.

    We also offer:

    • Nalidixic Acid Sodium (N085)
    • Nalidixic Acid (N011)

Mechanism of Action Nalidixic Acid indirectly inhibits proteins synthesis by binding DNA and interfering with enzymes involved in DNA replication and transcription, specifically bacterial DNA polymerase (DNA gyrase) and avian myelblastoma virus reverse transcriptase.  It also inhibits DNA topoisomerase II.  It can be used to study the mechanisms of gyrase activity.
Spectrum Nalidixic Acid is a broad-spectrum antibiotic with activity against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria.  However, it is most active against Gram-negative bacteria including Enterobacter.
Microbiology Applications Nalidixic Acid is commonly used in clinical in vitro microbiological antimicrobial susceptibility tests (panels, discs, and MIC strips) against Gram-positive and Gram-negative microbial isolates. Medical microbiologists use AST results to recommend antibiotic treatment options.  Representative MIC values include:
    • Escherichia coli 2 µg/mL - 8 µg/mL
    • Proteus mirabilis 2.1 µg/mL - 8 µg/mL
