1-Acetylchloramphenicol is an isomer of chloramphenicol acetate, a naturally-occurring co-metabolite of chloramphenicol in Streptomyces venezuelae albeit with significantly lower potency. Chloramphenicol acetate is the major product of chloramphenicol acetyltransferase, the major resistance mechanism to chloramphenicol.
